For hobbyists tuning drivetrain feel, a steel center swing shaft changes the feedback and rigidity around the center diff and linkage. Expect a firmer connection through the center drivetrain which can reduce flex under heavy loads during aggressive trail runs or bashing, but note that this also transfers more shock to surrounding linkages and mounting points.
