Fujimi FH-18 EX-1 1/700 IJN Aircraft Carrier Taihou - Full Hull with Latex Deck

This is a 1/700 scale full-hull plastic model kit representing the Imperial Japanese Navy aircraft carrier Taihou, positioned in Fujimi's full hull series as a detailed display kit aimed at builder-grade accuracy and realistic deck finish.

The real carrier Taihou was an Imperial Japanese Navy fleet carrier completed in 1944, notable for its larger size and attempts at improved protection compared with earlier Japanese designs. Taihou entered service late in World War II and was lost in 1944 following torpedo damage that led to catastrophic internal explosions. Her brief service and advanced design features influenced late-war carrier concepts.

Kit details focus on external fidelity and surface presentation. The full-hull format preserves hull lines below the waterline for solid display on keels or diorama bases. The latex flight deck provides a textured surface intended to reproduce the look of a covered carrier deck, while included photo-etched parts add fine structural and deck fittings that are difficult to achieve with injection-molded parts alone. Assembly will require careful handling of small parts and standard modelling skills for painting and rigging to achieve the intended display quality.

Specifications

  • Scale: 1/700
  • Assembly: full-hull model kit
  • Deck: latex flight deck included
  • Includes photo-etched parts

Aimed at collectors and display-oriented model builders, this full-hull kit emphasises external fidelity and deck texture through its latex deck and photo-etched detailing.

The kit is 1/700 scale; the full-hull format lets you display the model on a flat base or in dioramas showing hull shape and waterline details.
The latex deck gives a textured, slightly flexible surface that can better mimic painted or covered deck finishes and accepts paint differently than rigid plastic.
Photo-etched parts are included to enhance fine detail; they are not strictly required but are recommended for improved realism if you have the tools to fit them.
The kit is aimed at builders with some experience because of small parts, the latex deck handling, and fitting of photo-etched details; novices can attempt it with patience and basic photo-etch tools.
