The Panzerkampfwagen IV, often recognized as the backbone of Germany's armored forces during World War II, played a pivotal role in their military strategies. With over 8,000 units produced, this tank was a cornerstone of the German Panzer Divisions. The Ausf.H variant, particularly the early production model, is celebrated for its significant contributions and enhancements over previous versions.
The Panzer IV Ausf.H incorporated several improvements that made it a formidable force on the battlefield. It retained the reliable Maybach HL120TRM engine but introduced a more efficient SSG-77 transmission. Despite the added weight from increased armor and ammunition, which slightly reduced its speed to 38 km/h, the Ausf.H was a robust and reliable vehicle.
One of the defining features of this model was the long-barreled KwK40 L/48 tank gun, complemented by two 7.92mm MG34 machine guns. Additionally, the inclusion of "Schurzen" skirts provided extra protection, a feature first introduced in the preceding Ausf.G model.
Tamiya's 1/35 scale representation of the Panzer IV Ausf.H Early Version offers enthusiasts an opportunity to recreate this iconic piece of military history. The kit includes over 280 parts molded in tan plastic, rubber tracks, and a range of external details like towing cables, tools, and side skirts. Builders will appreciate the separate suspension arms and optional position hatches that allow for customization.
