At the start of the 2000 World Grand Prix Motorcycle Road Racing GP250cc class finals in Australia, two machines shot in front of the pack and gradually widened the lead. Two cyclists from same team would fight it out all the way toward complete line. Rider Shinya Nakano held the lead right away but discovered rider Olivier Jacque close behind him. Because they rounded the last corner, Jacque entered the slipstream and the two bikes headed the complete throat and neck. Jacque crossed the final line at 0.014 seconds, barely half a bike length, before Nakano to become WGP champion. At the period finish the two riders from Tech 3 group rated 1st and second correspondingly. These season, the Tech 3 group would enter the 500cc class. The Tech 3 riders for the 2001 WGP would once more be Jacque and Nakano. The machine used could be an evolution for the Yamaha YZR500, which won the Manufacturers' Championship in the last year. Utilizing a reliable 2-stroke water-cooled V4 motor, handling was upgraded and a lightweight, high-durability aluminum framework had been employed. Cornering capability had been improved with the addition of high-traction tires and aerodynamic front cowling. Nakano stayed in contention the top with constant race, taking third destination at Germany GP and standing fifth in general points at mid-season. Considering a personal injury suffered during pre-season, Jacque had a rough time engaging in the groove, but recovered during the 9th competition where he finished 6th. Again, the Tech 3 team proved prepared for on-the-edge racing action with its two YZR500's.
