The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-RR marked Kawasakis return to four-stroke grand prix racing, introduced with a 990cc four-stroke engine. After early development challenges the team progressed through incremental updates and rider changes, notably adding Shinya Nakano in 2004. The ZX-RR recorded competitive finishes, including a second place at the Dutch round where Nakano achieved the machine's best result in the referenced season.
