The Porsche 961 had been a rushing vehicle built by Porsche and predicated on their 959 activities vehicle. It had been meant for Group B low rider racing, complementing the purpose-built 956 and 962C which ran Group C worldwide Sports-Prototype Championship. The 961 project was temporary, running just three races and seeing the construction of just one car. Intends to offer the automobile to customers had been scrapped whenever Group B course was canceled.
