The German Jagdpanther is a renowned tank destroyer from World War II, celebrated for its exceptional design and combat performance. Built on the robust Panther tank chassis, it featured the formidable Pak43/3, L71 88mm gun. This powerful weapon was housed within a box-shaped superstructure, reinforced with 80mm thick frontal armor and 50mm side armor, both angled for enhanced protection. The mantlet, known as "Saukopf," had a substantial thickness of 100mm, providing additional defense.
Equipped with a Maybach V12 engine, the Jagdpanther weighed 46 tons and achieved an impressive balance of firepower, protection, and mobility. Production commenced in January 1944 at the MIAG firm, incorporating various upgrades throughout its service life based on battlefield feedback. Notably, later versions featured larger idler wheels and improved crew compartment heating. The Jagdpanther made its combat debut during the Normandy campaign in June 1944, with a total production of 415 units by April 1945.
