The "People's Car" task had been immediately carried out as well as in February 1936, Dr. Ferdinand Porsche presented their first model, that was the very base of the fabulous Volkswagen "Beetle". But along with the outbreak worldwide War 2, all manufacturing of Volkswagen ended up being instantly looked to military manufacturing. It was in January 1938, once the German Defense Forces provided specs for a military version of this practical automobile. In November of the same 12 months, a prototype model was completed and it had been formally designated the Pkw. K1 "Kubelwagen" Type 82. The automobile utilized a light but sturdy, monocoque construction with foldable canvas top. The trunk mounted, air-cooled 4 cylinder engine had a displacement of 985cc and production of 23.5hp at 3,000rpm, propelling the car as much as 80km/h. The four wheels had been supported by a torsion bar suspension system. The Kubelwagen was initially deployed towards the Reconnaissance battalions. With its dependable motor and heavy duty suspension system, the Kubelwagen immediately came to be utilized by every device, from scorching desert of Africa towards frozen Russian Eastern Front. About 51,000 Kubelwagens, including a few variations, were rolled out from the factory by the end of WW2.
