It had been the end of 1942 when a German heavy tank with extra thick armor and a robust main gun first showed up on North African front side. The new tank, long-desired by the German soldiers who'd hard-fought battles up against the allies, became known as the Tiger we Ausf. E. Development of the Tiger we began at the end of might 1941. The German Army Weapons Branch ordered the Henschel company to vie with Porsche in creating a prototype. The very first prototypes underwent studies on April 1942. Caused by these and subsequent trial showed the superiority associated with Henschel automobile to the Porsche's, and therefore manufacturing purchases were put for it. The Henschel's prototype had dense armor of 100mm at the front end and 80mm on both edges, and the main gun was the then most powerful, the 8.8cm KwK 36 L/56. The powerplant ended up being Maybach's HL 210 P45, yielding 650 horsepower. Mass production began already in August 1942 with small alteration from the prototype.
