The Toyota Model AB Phaeton is a significant piece of automotive history, originally produced in 1936. This vehicle was part of Toyota's early ventures into mass production, following the AA model. Notably, the AB featured a 3.4-liter inline-6 engine and design elements inspired by American automobiles of the era. Its unique features included a folding cloth roof, movable front windscreen, and front-hinged doors. However, with the onset of World War II, the majority of these vehicles were repurposed for military use, painted in khaki, and served as staff cars. Only 353 units were produced during this period.
For model enthusiasts and collectors, Tamiya’s 1/35 scale model of the Toyota AB Phaeton offers a meticulously detailed representation of this historical vehicle. Extensive research on surviving models has allowed Tamiya to capture the authentic design and details of the original car.
