2006 saw four manufacturers, BMW, Alfa Romeo, SEAT, and Chevrolet, compete the World Touring automobile Championships. With BMW having all but sown up the Manufacturer's Championship into the 2nd last round associated with the season, the ultimate battle brought close to a thrilling finish to see which BMW team driver would claim the Drivers' Champion-ship. The growing season completed with BMW Team UK motorist Andy Priaulx winning the championship by the slightest of margins, 1 point over BMW Team Germany motorist Jorg Muller.
