About the De Havilland Mosquito NF Mk.XIII/XVII

It had been 1944. The Allied Air Force proceeded to rain bombs down on Germany with devastating energy. In retaliation, the Luftwaffe hatched the Steinbock assault, a series of full-scale evening bombing raids over London while the English mainland, that would include over 400 bombers for instance the Junkers 88, Dornier 217, and Heinkel 177.
The interception of these massive aircraft, although hard because of their high sped and low presence, ended up being mostly entrusted on Mosquito evening Fighter NF Mk.XIIWe and NF Mk.XVII variations. It was in 1941 that the RAF started development of a night fighter form of the all-wood Mosquito. Initial ended up being the NF Mk.II, which was equipped with an Mk.IV Airborne Intercept Radar on the nose. But its limited range at low altitudes proved problematic versus the low altitude, high rate attackers. That is why, the Mosquito NF Mk.II came into existence equipped with a new centrimetric radar known as the A.I. Mk.VIII. The state designation of the aircraft was NF Mk.XII.

The new A.I. Mk.VII radar was also suited to an airframe in line with the Mosquito FB Mk.VI, inside a "bullnose" radome on nose, causing gallon drop tanks, and had been powered by two of wither the Merlin 21 or 23 machines. The sting of the Mosquito came from four 20mm Hispano Cannons installed just below the nose. Later, the lightweight and enhanced American-made CR-720 radar was attached to the NF. Mk.XVII form of the Mosquito, which would enter air combat after.
