Tamiya 71111 Mechanical Pig with shaking-head walking action
The Mechanical Pig is part of Tamiya's Robocraft STEM lineup and is presented as a buildable walking model that uses a small gearbox and motor to produce a forward gait with an added head-shake motion. Molded body and head parts use pink semi-transparent plastic to highlight internal details while keeping the assembly visually distinct from conventional opaque kits.
Assembly is straightforward for experienced hobbyists familiar with simple snap-lock and screw fittings. The kit includes a compact gearbox, motor and a reverse switch so the unit can be set to walk in either direction during bench testing. A small flag accessory and a manual screwdriver are included to aid finishing; the electrical supply is a single R04/AAA/UM4 battery (sold separately).
Running notes for builders: the unit is intended for flat, smooth surfaces. Avoid slopes, rough pavement or thick carpeting that impede the walking mechanism. Treat the kit as a lesson in small-gear gearbox layout and compact linkage, rather than as a vehicle for competitive tuning.
Drive system: gearbox-driven walking mechanism with reversible switch
Motor: small DC motor included
Power source: requires one R04 / AAA / UM4 battery (sold separately)
Continuous run time: approximately 1 hour with alkaline battery
Dimensions: total length 135 mm
Weight: 95 g (without batteries)
Body material: ABS resin; pink semi-transparent molded parts
Included mechanical items: gearbox, motor, reverse switch, small flag, screwdriver
As a compact STEM model, the Mechanical Pig is suited to builders who want a simple gearbox project with visible linkage and a novelty head-shake motion for display or classroom demonstration.
