The 15 cm s.F.H.18 Howitzer is an immediate descendent of the s.F.H.13 of World War I vintage. The same split path carriage had been combined with a 105 mm barrel to create the 10 cm s.K 18 Heavy Gun. Both of these cannons had been the main medium artillery pieces found in German artillery battalions, each battalion being composed of 12 cannons.
