The real Hawker Sea Hawk entered Royal Navy service in the early 1950s and completed carrier trials with 806 Squadron at Brawdy in 1953. Initially powered by earlier engines, later examples received the more powerful Nene 103 which extended its ground-attack capability and allowed carriage of external stores. A total of 434 Sea Hawks were built for the Royal Navy, with front-line service through 1960; export operators continued to use the type into the 1980s. The FGA.6 variant incorporated the Nene Mk.103 upgrade and was produced in limited numbers during the mid 1950s.
